Made from natural fibers, such as wool, or synthetic fibers, such as polyester and acrylic, fleece is a deep-pile woven fabric that's thick and soft. Fleece material is a popular choice for warm winter hats because it stretches to fit the head and is thick enough to retain body heat.

Beanies made of synthetic fibers, wool, cotton blends, and pure cotton can be washed in a machine. If you don't see the label, don't take the risk. Wash your beanie with hand.

Make sure that the detergent that you're using is safe on wool or, better yet, wool-specific. After washing on cold, do not place your beanie in the dryer. Instead, lay it on a drying wrack or on top of a dry towel and let it air dry until there's no moisture left whatsoever.
